Anointing of the Sick

The Anointing of the Sick may be celebrated:

  • When a person is seriously ill
  • When a person is chronically ill
  • When a person is elderly and in a weakened condition.
  • Before surgery
  • If a person is sick/gets better/then gets sick again.

The Anointing of the Sick is NOT the ‘last rites’; it is no longer called Extreme Unction.

Please call the priest to anoint the sick person as soon as a serious illness occurs.  Do not wait until the person is on their deathbed to call a priest. Phone parish office at anytime 780.986.3253.  If after hours follow the Emergency prompt.
