Baptism

Baptism is the first of the seven sacraments.  It is initiation into the Christian community; therefore we celebrate Baptisms during mass, when the Christian community is present to welcome your child.

  • Please phone the pastor @ 780-986-3253 to set up an initial meeting.  Please ensure that you bring your child's birth certificate to this meeting.
  • Please know the date of the Godparents' Confirmation.
  • Parents are also required to participate in a Baptism Preparation class.

Godparents:

  • Only one Godparent is required.  If there are two, there must be one of each gender.
  • Godparents must be a minimum age of 16.
  • At least one Godparent must be a practicing Catholic Christian who has received the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation.
  • If the second Godparent is not Catholic, s/he may be a Baptized Christian of another denomination.  That person would be called a Christian Witness, not a Godparent.
  • Godparents are required to participate in Baptism Preparation.

We encourage you to consider Baptism Preparation prior to the birth of your child, if possible. Taking the time now can help eliminate the need for baby sitters, and adds to the joyful anticipation of the birth of your child.

Baptism of Adults and Children over 7 years of age.

  • If your child is older than 7 years of age, s/he must participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) adapted for Children.  This is a process for parents and children whereby the children start to develop a relationship with God while they learn the basics of the Catholic Christian faith. This process takes several months or longer.
  • For more information, please call the parish office  780-986-3253.
