Candidates are also required to attend Mass every Sunday (or Saturday evening),

participate in a Saturday half-day retreat and complete 10 hours of service work.

Before Confirmation, children must have completed First Reconciliation (also called Confession or Penance) and First Communion.

As a parent, you are the primary teacher of the faith for your child.  As you know, the sacraments are celebrated and lived in the parish.

Because of this, the preparation for the sacraments takes place in the parish - not the schools.  The Catholic schools support what takes place in the home and parish and are a place for children to learn about Jesus and develop a relationship with him.

  • In addition to the Wednesday classes, Confirmation candidates are required to participate in a Saturday retreat and do 10 hours of service work.
  • Confirmation candidates must choose a Sponsor:
    • A Sponsor is a person who practices her/his faith, is over 16 years of age, and is also confirmed.
    • The Sponsor must provide the name of the parish and the date on which s/he was confirmed.
    • The Sponsor must not be one of the Confirmation candidate's parents.

What are the requirements for CONFIRMATION classes?

  • Age:  Children must be a minimum age of 11 (grade 6).
  • First Communion & Confession: Children must have already completed the sacraments of First Communion and First Confession (also called Reconciliation or Penance) before Confirmation.
  • Parental Participation is key.  Parents are required to help their children with their home assignments, and to addend two of the classes.
  • A Baptism Certificate must be provided if your child was not baptized at St. Michael Parish.
  • Regular Attendance at Sunday Mass. The celebration of the Eucharist is the source and summit of our lives a s Catholic Christians.  At Mass, we experience Christ in ways that we cannot experience him anywhere else:  in the Scripture readings, in our praying and singing, in the person of the priest, in the celebration of the Sacraments, and especially in the Eucharist.
